The Zimbabwe Independent reports that Zimbabwe Cricket are likely to reduce the number of central contracts on offer to players, and reconsider the terms of the ones that are handed out, in light of recent poor performances by the national team:
"A contract is an important document. It is a commitment that one makes that they will care for someone's welfare. But you have to make sure that you get the best out of the contracted person. What we are getting is the opposite. These players are paid to play for five days but they give us two days. You can't just give contracts in the light of the scenario we have. We've got to look at other ways of doing it."

It's been noted in a number of places that some players have seemed disinterested on the field in recent games, and have been showing signs of arrogance as a result of the security their contracts offer. If reducing the number of central contracts on offer will encourage players to put more effort into securing their place in the squad, that can only be a good thing.
