Old Hararians’ Ryan Butterworth has been named Man of the Series after his performances in this season’s National League. The all-rounder had a batting average of 75 over the course of the contest, and managed some reasonable performances with the ball as well - although unfortunately they weren’t enough to stop OH’s elimination at the semi-final stage.
And yet Butterworth still hasn’t had any appearances at the national level. I wonder if this award will change that.

Another series, another whitewash, as South Africa secured their 3rd win on the trot, this time by 126 runs over a Zimbabwean side that looks increasingly woeful as time goes on. More later…

CricInfo reports that, despite there being other pressing issues that they should probably be dealing with, ZC have had the time to introduce a new player dress code - which has led to Keith Dabengwa, Tawanda Mupariwa and Christopher Mpofu having to lose their dreadlocks. Mupariwa’s in particular were almost his trademark, and it won’t be the same without them. Note to ZC: worry about things that will impact player performance first, please…

The Zimbabwean reports on plans by the current provincial setup to make the domestic game in Zim “ungovernable” in an effort to persuade ZC Chairman Peter Chingoka to step down. Weren’t these the people who just elected him to another 4-year term?? The paper spoke to an unnamed provincial chairman, who is quoted as saying:
“It has become an embarrassment that we seem to imply a serious lack of capable people in this country. The irony of it is we have just suffered another embarrassment in losing to Bangladesh, and the young players, who they thought would be used to cover up for their madness, are also frustrated. We are mobilising for serious measures that must make Chingoka realise he is no longer wanted. Cricket belongs to the grassroots and so we shall make it ungovernable, for Chingoka to go.”
Chingoka has shown remarkable resilience in the last few years, so I’m not holding my breath…
