Charles Robertson’s View of Zimbabwean Cricket

Writing in last weekends Standard, former chairman of the now-defunct Mashonaland Country Discticts association Charles Robertson writes about how Zimbabwean cricket, in his view, fell apart. The article begins with the original player dispute, through the creation of the new provinces, and the various attempts to involve the ICC in what was going on, and makes for an interesting recap on “the story so far”. His final words:

Where does that leave us now? No internal first class competition, a test status prerequisite, during 2006. Normal events, particularly in the youth development programmes were either cancelled or held against weaker opposition. Is this what we have become in 14 years of Test Cricket!

In an interview with the Zimbabwe Independent on 8 September 2006 Chingoka said that the game of cricket was on its feet. No Peter the game is on its knees!
