BBC Radio Five Live had a short segement on last night’s Sport on Five programme, taking a look at the state of cricket in Zimbabwe. If you want to listen to the spot, go to the BBC’s Listen Again service, and click on the link for Sport on Five Monday (Windows Media Player or Real Player required, programme will be available until 5th March). The relevant segment is 15 minutes from the end of the show.
Featured guests were South African cricket reporter Telford Vice and former players’ representative Clive Field. Former Zim captain Alastair Campbell had also been due to appear, but apparently technical problems prevented him coming on. There’s nothing in the spot that will surprise anyone who’s been following Zimbabwean cricket over the past few years, but it’s worth a listen all the same.
UPDATE: …and if you don’t want to listen to the broadcast, there’s now a text article summarising the show on the BBC Sport website. Link below.
BBC Sport - Zimbabwe’s decline
I think Mr Curran is naturally an over optimistic man or he is just deliberately pulling my leg!
Zim doesn’t have the capacity to beat an ‘AVERAGE’ Pakistan side since it has lost over 90% of it’s recent encounters either against A sides or the weakest Test side.
Chingoka put it right a few weeks ago that they are only looking forward to the world cup because of the financial rewards that the PARTICIPATING countries get.
Ireland has the batsmen to post a good score, but lacks the bowlers to defend it as was recently shown here in Nairobi.
More likely sticking to the official ZC line, on pain of keeping his job…
