Logan Cup, Round Two

Westerns (201 & 154/6) beat Kenya Select (218 & 158) by 4 wickets.
Centrals beat Northerns by 7 wickets.
Easterns beat Southerns by 183 runs.

A good win for Westerns over Kenya Select - some had expected the Kenyans to be too strong for any of the Zimbabwean teams, so I’ll admit to taking a certain amount of satisfaction out of that result. It has to be remembered that, outside of the Intercontinental Cup, Kenya have very little experience at the longer form of the game, so this is as much a learning experience for them as it is for the less experienced Zimbabwean players. The scorecard for this match is below the cut.

In the other matches (no scorecards currently available - sorry), career-best figures of 6/20 by Ed Rainsford during Northerns’ second innings led Centrals to a convincing win in Kwekwe, overturning Northerns’ first-innings lead. In Mutare, tons from Stuart Matsikenyeri and Stephen Nyamuzinga saw Easterns home.

ZC being ZC, there’s no published points table for the Logan Cup at the moment, but by my reckoning it should look something like this:

                Pl W L D
 1 Westerns 2 2 0 0
 2 Easterns 2 1 0 1
 3 Centrals 2 1 1 0
 4 Northerns 2 0 1 1
=5 Southerns 1 0 1 0
=5 Kenya Select 1 0 1 0

Please bear in mind that’s an entirely unofficial ranking table.

  1. 1 jones

how do you get the scorecards for the westerns matches

  2. 2 maehara

CricInfo somehow managed to get hold of them, so they’re taken from there. They’ve managed to get cards for both of Westerns’ games so far, so it looks like they have a contact in Bulawayo who’s supplying them, rather than getting them from ZC.

Any news from the first day of round three yet?
zimcricket’s site seems virtually impossible to get onto, even if it has the scores up.

  4. 4 maehara

Centrals (141 all out) lead Southerns (51/9 decl, close of play)
Westerns (149/5) lead Northerns (47 all out)

Sounds like a thoroughly scrappy day’s play. No news on Easterns v Kenyans yet - site for the Mutare local paper (Manica Post) is currently down as well.
