Gauteng Take Honours in One-Day Match

Fresh from their win in the 3-day match, Gauteng also scored a thumping victory over Zimbabwe in their one-day meeting in Bulawayo earlier today. Batting first, Zim managed just 144, with the bulk of that coming from just 4 players - Regis Chakabva (23), Alester Maregwede (29), Terry Duffin (29) and Graeme Cremer (28). The rest of the innings was essentially a non-event. As in the 3-day game, Richard das Neves spelt real trouble for Zim, taking 4/24.

Gauteng rattled off the required total in just 35 overs. Tendai Chisoro (2/29) was best with the ball, but the Zim attack wasn't able to make significant inroads in the Gauteng batting order, or restrict their scoring enough to give them a chance.

Not a good weekend in Bulawayo, then. Easterns are next up, in early November, Full scorecard below the cut.
Zimbabwe Provinces 144 (32.5/45 overs; Maregwede 29, Duffin 29, das Neves 4/24); Gauteng 145/4 (34.5/45 overs; Swan 44*, Chisoro 2/29). Gauteng win by 6 wickets.

Seems they are lacking in batting application, as i mentioned they had only 4 proper batsman in whole squad.they need to put more batsmen in thier provincal sqaud.guys like Mutizwa and butterworth can be drafted into the suqad. They need to learn to build up partnerships.

guys i still think ZIM A is not full ZIM a TEAM,they are still missing lots of names. i am not sure why.seeing last year zim A team, its quite different form that. with names like mufambisi and kistani missing, i think these 2 players were performing well last year against Bangaladesh A team. I have seen Mufambisi in some ODI though he did not score much he did look to me player with lots of strokes. They need to have long batting lin up I dont see ZIM team winning any game on bowling what they can held is to atleast draw games.

Remember that the side playing in the SAA Provincials is a development side, and not the 'A' side as such (technically, it's Zimbabwe Provinces, but ZC seem to be horribly confused about what name to use for what team at the moment). The team playing here is Zimbabwe's 3rd-string side, with a few players from further up the structure included to add some experience. Given that, I honestly wouldn't expect too much from them.

The Zimbabwe Provinces team is very weak, it could be much stronger. Honestly, I don't see how it benefits anyone if they continue to get thrashed. Certainly doesn't do the players confidence any good.

Farhan, I don't know if Kasteni is even playing cricket in Zimbabwe (at a professional level) any more. The last time he played was in the World Cup if I remember correctly, he took no part in the Logan Cup.

Having said that, I agree with maehara, we shouldn't expect much from the Zim Provs team in South Africa. Let's just hope for a win or two in the one-dayers, some decent performances in the First Class games and hopefully a few good individual performances.

yeah it seems some good individual performances by these ZIM players at the end be what be matering in the end.As in this match Chakabva performed well. I think he is just 19 years old and seems to me raw talent. with some experince he may be the one of the players to join national team, provided he remains in ZIM cricket.
On the note of this team being development team not the A team, well hope these players develop into good players in future.I hope SOUTH AFRICA will always be helping ZIM by allowing such luxury for zim.
