Result: Sri Lanka A 426 (Perera 75, Warnapura 71, Utseya 4/100, Mpofu 3/87) & 203/5 decl (Kapugedara 58*, Utseya 2/37), Zimbabwe Select 313 (Dabengwa 62*, Sibanda 55) & 221/3 (Chibhabha 103, Sibanda 47, Prasad 1/27, Kulasekara 1/34). Match Drawn.
Day 5 match report from zimcricket.org
As expected, match drawn, but Zimbabwe did make a good show of it, led by Chamu Chibhabha who picked up his maiden first-class century. Losing only three wickets in their second innings, Zimbabwe's batsmen were much improved and can take some positives from this game, which at one point looked safely in Sri Lanka's hands. Perhaps, with that momentum taken into the second match (starting Monday), there's a chance for Zim to pick up a win.

Comments
Re: comment elsewhere about Utseya's figures - since the longer game is all about bowling sides out (keeping the opposition to a low runrate without bowling them out just leads to a draw, usually), it's definitely a good thing if Utseya has been persuaded to be more attacking. He only went for 2.92/over during his spell, too (24 overs), so it doesn't seem to have affected his economy much.
I have the scorecard for the day & will post it shortly "below the cut".
well that be interesting to know the scorecard. In the end have to agree with you people that keeping srilanka down to 350, be well job done by zimbabweans looking at thier bowling attack. If there may be CHIGUMBURA and RAINSFORD in the team that performances may have been better. They just let ninth wicket partnership to grow, was one stage 288 for 8. well hope today they get them bowl out as earlly as possible.then they have good day with the bat.It will be upto Taibu and taylor to lead from front.guys like Sibanda, chibabha, williams and stuart have to be selected in thier shoot makings and need to make full use of potentail those guys have.well hope they chase down that target.
well at the close of 2nd day
Zimbabwe Select – 203 for 6:
(V. Sibanda 55, C. Chibhabha 40, B. Taylor 30, S. Williams 27*, R. Herath 2/39, D. Perera 2/20).
Sri Lanka A – 426 all out
SriLanka on really top, it seems that it be tough for zim to save this match,Taibu run out would have been big below for zim, still if they can safe themselves from fellow on thier might be chance that they need to bat for lesser time to save the match, But from position there are now it be great achievement if they be able to safe the match.
As long as they can avoid the follow-on, the draw's probably the most likely result. Still a way short of that target, though...
Looks like we are slowly getting to grips with the longer version again, although we let the last wicket partnership grow to an unacceptable level. They just have to bat out day three to avoid the follow on and get a draw and then take the positives learnt into the next match. I believe that with more such matches the guys' confidence will grow like their one day game as evidenced by the recent South Africa series and 20/20 WC.
CONGRATULATIONS to all who are fanatic like me on the 15th anniversary of Zim's test ckt 2day.On this fine day, 15 years back, would anyone believe that some of the Zimbabwe players, during their inaugural Test, were going to their offices before coming to the ground? But still the team of lawyers, accountants and farmer-sons was more educated in the basics than their mighty opponents. They amassed the highest-ever total by a country while making their debut. Also it was the first time when the debutant team didn't lose the test, a feat in itself.
I'm proud of yu Zimbabwe
Well said dr.situ.
First of all, I want to say Taylor's 30 was all class, with Sibanda's support he really helped set the team up. Not that I would be biased ;)
In all honesty though, Sibanda and Taylor are a good opening pair. They worked well in the Twenty20's and it seems that they did well today, losing the first wicket (Sibanda on 55) at 1/91.
While Sean Williams is out there, there is hope of reaching 300 . I assume Gary Brent or Prosper Utseya is also out there with him. Brent we know can play well, he made 50 or 60 odd against South Africa in an ODI a few weeks ago I believe? He has a FC hundred to his name. Utseya can also strike the ball a bit, made 45 on Test debut if I recall.
Mpofu and Mupariwa though, not a lot of batting power there. Williams and Brent/Utseya must put on a partnership.
well CONG to ZIM and zim crikcet on thier 15th anniversary . well coming to the point th performances of ZIM team , i think the problem they are having is that palyers getting start and then getting out, well they need to lean convert this start into something big total. Certainly these players getting start and then getting out.showing they have talent but not making real use of thier talents.
Great effort by Utseya for his bowling. Got wickets and kept the run rate down. Good to see Sinbanda make over 50.
well guys they have done one thing saving follow on, but importantly batted for time as they batted for 2 hours. It is still possiblity that ZIM have to bat for last day to save the match if SRILANKA are willing to take bold decsion.
good day out for Zimbabweans both in bolwing and batting.thye need to continue it for tommorow and concentrate more on the game. they can get lots of positive from this game.
Good performances by Williams, Dabengwa and Sibanda.
I think we have all been overlooking William's quality. With all the hype about Taibu returning and Taylor's great form in the Twenty20's, we've all been forgetting Williams (perhaps in part because he was injured in the Twenty20's). Williams has a first class average of about 46 now, which is fantastic, by far the highest of the current lot.
Zimbabwe did well to get over 300, but I think 350 is a par Test score. Until Zimbabwe can make 400 consistently against the second tier opponents (Sri Lanka A, etc) I don't think they will be ready for Tests again.
Two sessions to make 300 runs... unless Taylor and Sibanda treat this like a high-scoring one day match I can't see this game becoming anything but a draw.
Taylor 13*, 87 runs away from a century... :)
any one knew latest scores?.well you are right 350 is averge score in test matches, also the team srilanka i don't think was really strong. So they should have scored 400 runs , also they were not able to bowl them out early after intial start.still long way to go for ZIM to be good team for this form.

Zimbabwe Select 221 for 3 in 2nd inning
(C. Chibhabha 103, V. Sibanda 47, T. Taibu 39*; D. Prasad 1/27, N. Kulasekara 1/34)
The match was drawn.
Congs to zim and speacilly youngster C. Chibhabha for his maiden first class hundred.Well showing what a talent he is.he showed glimpses of it in 1st inning but was fell after getting good start.well coming good in 2nd inning.Unfortunately V. Sibanda again fell out after getting decent start. he needs to learn to convert this beautiful fourtys into hundreds. it is seen he has been getting out into 40s.Taibu was solid as always.
Congrats to Chibhabha great effort
