Zimbabwe Tour of Pakistan On

Colour me surprised, but a Pakistan Cricket Board official has confirmed to Reuters that Zimbabwe will tour the country in January 2008. Why the surprise? First, Zim’s last visit to Pakistan was postponed as the PCB didn’t feel it was worth their while without any Test matches being played - that position hasn’t changed; and second, this tour will coincide with the country’s scheduled elections, which by any measure are likely to present a security risk to any visiting sides. My guess is that the PCB are keen to show other Test sides that it’s safe to visit the country, while ZC will be trying to make the point that security concerns (like the ones that seem to worry every side that visits Zimbabwe) shouldn’t get in the way of a tour.

The tour will comprise one 4-day match, one 3-day match (most likely against representative sides), and 5 One-Day Internationals, to be held in Karachi, Hyderabad, Multan, Faisalabad and Sheikhupura.

Interesting that it seems Pakistan media are excited about a Zimbabwe series. As said above, I suppose they want to show Australia it is a safe destination.
