Namibia Head for World Cup Qualifiers, Uganda Try Again

Division Two of the World Cricket League recently finished in Windhoek, Namibia - the league is the ICC's new route to World Cup qualifying that allows any Associate or Affiliate nation to have a shot at playing in the game's top tournament, with the League providing 6 sides to the World Cup pools. The ICC World Cup Qualifiers take place in UAE in April 2009; sides in WCL Division One (Kenya, Ireland, Scotland, Netherlands, Canada and Bermuda) have already booked their slots, while the top 4 teams from the 6 who took part in Division Two are also now on the list - that's Namibia, Oman, UAE and Denmark.

Uganda missed out, finishing in 5th place - that sees them relegated to Division Three, but their chance isn't lost yet as the top two sides from Division Three (to be played in January 2009, with 6 teams taking part) will complete the lineup for the Qualifiers.

Other African sides still in with a remote shot are Botswana, Mozambique (both in Division Five) and Tanzania (in Division Four).

Unfortunate about Uganda, they are a really promising team. I wouldn't be surprised to see them get ODI status in the next decade.

well really disappointing for me i followed them all the way in wcl div 2 they got lot of chances but did not make it through in the last match they needed only 146 to chase to qualify for wcq. but they did not .i think somehow ugandians were wrong in thier team selection i think they can easilly gone through but some disputes halted to go forward for them.

Uganda should still qualify - they won Division Three earlier in the year, they just need to finish in the top 2 for the next event to make it to the Qualifiers. With them having beaten both Kenya and Bermuda this year, they should be able to manage that.

The more African teams there are in the competition, the happier I am. :)

surely i be too but i think ACA is not doing great good for these developing nations , they are not playing even against each other more often why there is not any tournament among these top associates nations along with A teams from zim and SA.there should such touranment once in the year to help the standard of these nations to improve.
