Another bad day at the office for Zimbabwe - after winning the toss and electing to bat, Zimbabwe's batting efforts fell apart around them. The first wicket fell in the 2nd over, and was followed by a procession of others as Zim's batsmen came and went, with most of them failing to make much of an impact. Tatenda Taibu was pick of a bad bunch with 32, while only Keith Dabengwa (26) and Stuart Matsikenyeri (16) making double-figures. The side were bowled out within 38 overs for a score of just 139 - an easy target for the Windies to chase.
As seems to be traditional in this series, Zimbabwe took one early wicket (Devon Smith, in the 5th over), but from there the visitors ran up the required total with little trouble, closing out the match in the 28th over and taking a 2-1 series lead.
Once again, Zim were let down by a poor batting display. How many more of these must we see before the issue is addressed? In this match, Zimbabwe had recognised batsmen down to #7 - all those players have shown at one stage or another that they have the required talent, and that they can do the job required of them - but something, somewhere, just isn't clicking and they can't get any sort of consistency together. I'm no coach, so I can't say how this can be dealt with - that's Robin Brown's job, and hopefully he'll already be working on resolving the problem.
Zimbabwe 139 (37.5 overs; Taibu 32, Taylor 3/18). West Indies 142/4 (27.5 overs; Bravo 45*, Utseya 2/27. West Indies win by 6 wickets, lead series 2-1 with 2 to play. Scorecard below the cut.

masakada out williams in
Yes..Indeed. You think about it masacadza has played around 50 one day internatinals and only hit 5 50's and with a poor strike rate.
Williams has played less than 20 one day internationals and scored 5 50's so his conversion rate is good..Also williams has a S/R of 75 which is more than acceptable in the one day format
With this in mind its williams all the wauy for me
for me dabengwa out and ryan ervine in ryan is a good allrouder i hope he gets a go
Ryan Ervine, are you kidding? He hasn't even played Logan Cup or Faithwear yet
Plus, I think he's in England.
Why would you drop Dabengwa? He's one of the few this series (bar 1st ODI) who has done quite well.
I think Jimbo is right, Williams for Masakadza would be a good swap. But I think Williams is still injured - not sure though.
We are missing a second strike bowler. Chigumbura is very good in this role, but has nobody to support him. I think Mpofu should support him. Perhaps Mupariwa is another option.
Intresting news dont know if anyone is intrested and im probably putting this in the wrong place, I just googled tinash payangara's name and apparently he's making quite a name for himself in britain playing for the halifax vandals in rugby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Apparently he kicked quite a few penalties and his side won, Has he got a workpermit or is he trying to make it as an official UK resident? Anyway shows his sporting skills..Cmon ZC get this man back!!!
That is interesting. Good find! There was actually a bit of discussion about Panyangara at zimcricketforums.com the other day.
The rugby article is at http://www.halifaxcourier.co.uk/local/Vandals-overpower-Mosborough.35478... if anyone is looking for it.
He's been in the UK for a while now, perhaps he is looking to live there permanently. Though, in 2006 he said he wanted to play top level cricket again.
Zimbo.. Zimbo... Zimbo... This is one team you can never quite get the hang of. One time things are kinda going well and its like the press the Self distract on themselves. Whats their excuse now.
Just a note in case anyone's wondering where the usual match report and scorecard are - I'm kinda tied up this week. It will appear eventuallly!
i think matsikenyeri has played well but if dion ebrahim was availible he would be a good replacement for matsikienyeri ebrahim has a century to his name and is a experienced player.
Masakadza is a test player finish ...williams must come in. We need an extra bowler definetely someone to take wickets. As for Panayangara check barkislandcricketclub.co.uk/1.html - i think he is playing for this club and last time I read he had taken 43 wickets in their season...(sumthing shud be done to bring him back) He is playing for a minor league club I think clever negotiating can bring him back. As for the game the toss was bad but we need some consistency especially the batting its too fragile sometime. Hoping Bulawayo gives us 2 good results. Dion Ebrahim isnt so good But I think we need someone the team can bat around, someone who wont give away his wicket, someone to come in at Number 3 a Kallis of our own( masakadza has the technique but cant last) then the other players can attack. Mpariwa for Keith (we got too many spinners)
Ebrahim!come on guys.i know we are really desperate for someone who can stick around the wicket but Ebrahim of all people.Frankly i`m amazed that they retained him for so long.he has a tortoise like strike rate and absolutely useless with ball(at least masakadza can throw a few leg breaks and medium paced deliveries).i just cant have him in the one dayers.Williams is the man.his spin is more than usefull and.....heaven knows we need a strike bowler upfront.Mpofu will do
how about sean ervine at 3 hes more than capable hope he comes back hes been playing good one day and first class cricket in england and australia zc need to get him back i hope its happens.
we need ed rainsford he got pace accuracy everything u need for a strike bowler hes not even in the squad how can we win if rainsford not in the team
Ervine was destined to be a great player until the politics of the game ruined him (or is it us).Since the whole rebel struggle is no longer strong(streak came back, now price..taibu even),we can take a shot at trying to bring him back.he is usefull with the ball as well.Rainsford agreed as well.A good strike bowler.hope we will put in a decent fight on friday
i agre the politics is wrong we need sean ervine back but how are zc going to get him back hes only 24 years so he has time.
I think the selectors have done things the wrong way round...Playing dabengwa, utesya, price at BULAWAYO would be a good move as historically it is a slow wicket and is condusive to spin. It would have been good in harare that the selectors included mpofu or even given the young lad trevor garwe a go
Ebrahim was given extended run in ODIs.His century was against Bangladesh only.No point in calling on old payers all the time. For Gods sake Dion, Sean all are hstory now, support the present and future PLZ
dr.situ if sean ervine came back for zim and said he is willing to play would agree or not have him in the side.
Jagdish, we've been over this before. Ervine has not made himself available for selection, it's very unlikely that he will, so suggesting that he should be chosen for a match to be played tomorrow is simply a waste of time. Please limit your suggestions to players who are currently available.
...and for the avoidance of any doubt, "currently available" means the named squad for this series:
Prosper Utseya, Gary Brent, Chamu Chibhabha, Elton Chigumbura, Graeme Cremer, Keith Dabengwa, Terry Duffin, Trevor Garwe, Blessing Mahwire, Timycen Maruma, Hamilton Masakadza, Stuart Matsikenyeri, Christopher Mpofu, Tawanda Mupariwa, Ray Price, Vusi Sibanda, Tatenda Taibu, Brendan Taylor and Sean Williams.
I see Jagdish has a hang up with the old team ...guys that team wasnt the best in the world ...I think this team is reaching the level of that old team already. I mean they were competitive but certainly not the best. For the future yeah If they want to come back the likes of Panyangara,Ervine and Blignaught could be pretty useful. Suddenly Zimbabwe is spin heavy..(when did this come about ...we need a bit more pace give Mpariwa game time please. Williams must play he can bat he can bow.
