Interesting item in the Sunday News last weekend, that reports that Ed Rainsford and Alester Maregwede have both been playing at club level in Australia recently - Rainsford recently returned to Zim to play in the local domestic competitions, while Maregwede is still apparently in Australia. Vusi Sibanda has also signed to play for club side St George’s - he was due to join them in September, but has delayed his departure until after the Pakistan tour in January has been completed. Given the problems ZC had getting use of him while he has playing for Strathfield last year, it’s good to see he’s putting country before club this time around.
The Australian leagues have long been fertile training grounds, so hopefully their experiences will prove useful to these three. Mention of Rainsford is particularly interesting - Zimbabwe could use some extra pace ability in the side, and if this is the beginning of his return to the team, it’s not a moment too soon.
Sunday News - Sibanda to move after Pakistan tour
Good to see rainsford back..Hopefully he will be back for pakistan tours. Can take or leave maragwede
maragwede is not good he been tried leave him out for odi tests maybe.
Im glad sibanda has got his priorities right, i dont usually say this but he owes ZC a lot, In 2006 he was averaging about 11 runs per innings and he had played more than 30 internationals then, His average improved then he buggered off to strathfield. ZC had perservered with him and then he went and missed out on important tours of bangladesh and the ICC champions trophy..This affected the stability of the side and we got stuffed, Thats why i think it would have been out and out racism if ozias bvute blocked brendon taylor coming back when he went to holland after the world cup.. It would be acceptable for rainsford Sibanda to take time out to play club cricket in the off season but not when important international are kicking off
