Zimbabwe 256 (Dabengwa 79, Kreusch 3/28) & 412/9 (Williams 107, Walters 3/111), South African Composite XI 353 (McLaren 80, Koortzen 80, Utseya 5/70). Zimbabwe lead by 315.
Every time we really put the boot into Zimbabwe, it seems they come up with the goods, and today was no exception. At the close of play, Zimbabwe had batted through the day (when was the last time that happened?) and were on 412/9 (when was the last time they passed 400?), and looked to have at least secured the draw in this match. Sean Williams led a great day's work with an impressive 107, but for once it wasn't a case of one man doing all the work - Tatenda Taibu (78), Elton Chigumbura (71) and Prosper Utseya (57) all made significant contributions, although in doing so they again showed the top-order up as non-performers.
Composite struggled in the field, with Walters being their leading wicket-taker for the innings (3/111). Yes, they only have one more wicket to take before they can begin their run-chase, but a 300+ target will be a major battle - especially with Utseya in rare form with the ball at the moment. Should be a good day's play tomorrow.

I cant see why that ZC cant categorise their players into ODI players and first class players, Firstly Vusi sibanda has a first class average of 21 which means he should really only be playing ODI matches, Terry duffin sahould be in this first class side but be excluded from the ODI format, Also cremer and rainsford should be given a go in place of maruma and dabengwa...thats a tough call on dabengwa as he did get a good score but one swallow does not make a summer and we need an extra pace bowler.
What does everyone else think?
What the hell is Utseya doing with that red ball!!!!! Look at that kid go!! Two 5 fors in a row he must be extracting some appreciable turn..Good on him
I agree that there are issues with selection, but I think until the quota system is gone we will never have a truly fair team.
Williams is sticking two fingers up at the selectors for dropping him..Look at him go with this innings, get a century son!!!
Unfortunately williams success might mean that brendon taylor is sidelined in pakistan as we have seen that the selectors are loath to include toooo many white players...Would be a shame if this happened
I think it might cause a bit of a stir if Taylor is left out of the ODI team. Since that Twenty20 game, Cricinfo and other news services love him - so ZC might get a few scathing articles if they dropped him against Pakistan.
From what we know, ZC are looking at 8-3 quotas. Hopefully it is abolished, because we need to play a full strength team against Pakistan, but if it is not it means one of Taylor-Williams-Price or Williams-Brent-Price will play. Hell, Brent hasn't played in so long is might be just Williams and Price.
On the other hand, we don't know if injuries are causing problems for anyone. These SuperSport Challenge games are hardly being covered at all. For all we know Taylor and Brent might have headaches...
I hope he doesnt BRM but you have seen what the selectors are like!!!
