Vermeulen Pleads Not Guilty

The trial of Mark Vermeulen on arson charges finally got under way in Harare this week. The former Zimbabwe players has pleaded not guilty on grounds that he has been suffering from psychiatric problems, originating from a head injury sustained during a cricketing tour to Australia. According to Vladimir Rajkovic, a private psychiatrist in Harare who has been treating Vermeulen…

“The illness causes loss of impulse control and compromises anger management.”

A government psychiatrist has supported Rajkovic’s diagnosis. The trial will continue on January 30th.
