Logan Cup ‘B’ In Doubt

No surprise here, but there’s speculation that the Logan Cup ‘B’ competition, scheduled to start on Wednesday, could be in doubt due to the air of uncertainty in Zim while the country awaits the results of last week’s Presidental vote. The competition has already been delayed by a week and moved to Harare from Bulawayo, and any further delay may also have a knock-on effect on the ‘A’ division of the competition, due to start on April 17th.

Logan Cup ‘B’ Gets Underway with New Format

The Logan Cup ‘B’ competition gets underway next Wednesday (9th April), and perhaps in an effort to improve standards it has a new format - instead of the 5 teams that compete for the ‘A’ trophy, there will be just 3 sides in this competition, imaginatively named Red, Green and Gold. Side will play 3-day matches in a round-robin competition (therefore 2 matches each), with the team finishing top on points lifting the trophy.

The sides are drawn from the existing 10 provinces as follows:
Red: Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland East, Manicaland and Harare Metropolitan
Green: Midlands, Mashonaland West and Masvingo
Gold: Matabeleland North, Matabeleland South and Bulawayo Metropolitan

In an unusual piece of good publicity by ZC, he even have full squads and a fixture list - the fixtures can be found on our Fixtures page, while the squads are as follows:

Green: Tom Adam, George Banda, Tinashe Chaeruka, Maxine Chamburuka, Steven Chimhamiwa, Pepukai Chisaka, Tendai Chitongo, Ronnie Makohwera, Arnold Marambo, Alex Mavhiko, Shepard Muradza, Richard Muzhange, Glynn Nyamauta and Elvis Vheremu.
Gold: Lloyd Chikari, Atish Chouhan, Vincent Dururu, Dennis Gunda, Brian Hubbard, Paul Kasonde, Washington Kuripa, Taurai Madhiri, Dumisani Makunzini, Mike Mhlanga, Kendrick Moyo, Sydwell Ndlovu, Tafadzwa Ngulube and Khawulani Ntuli.
Red: Tonderai Bwana, Peter Fani, Clayton Gova, Douglas Jumbe, Benjamin Katsande, Panashe Malianga, Tendayi Matemayi, Samuel Mhone, Sadon Mukumira, Tendai Shereni, Clement Rizhibowa, Basail Sanilac, Willard Stenala and Donald Tiripano.

Standard Bank Pro20 Schedule Updated

I’ve updated the Fixtures page with Zimbabwe’s current fixture list for the Standard Bank Pro20 series - Zim had originally been due to play 3 of their matches at home, but with the tourney clashing with the elections at the end of March, they’re now set to play all their matches away in South Africa. The round-robin stage of the campaign opens against Warriors on 25th March, and ends against the Titans at Centurion on April 11th.

Revised ZC Domestic Schedule

Maybe they’ll stick to this one. ZC have released the outline schedule for the rest of the domestic season, which currently looks like this:

19-21 March Twenty20 Inter-Pro 'A' Harare
1-11 April Logan Cup 'B' Bulawayo
17 April - 20 May Logan Cup 'A' Various
27 May - 2 June Faithwear One-Day Series 'A' Bulawayo

Logan Cup ‘A’ matches will take place at the sides’ various home grounds - Harare Sports Club, Queen’s Sport Club, Masvingo Sports Club, Mutare Sports Club and Kwekwe Sports Club. No detailed fixture list as yet.

Logan Cup Postponed, Inter-Pro Twenty20 Back On

Just a few days after the Logan Cup schedule was released - with the first matches having been due this week - the tournament has again been postponed. CricInfo reports that ZC’s operations department don’t appear to have consulted with the coaching & selection side of the organisation before announcing the schedules, but that now that coach Robin Brown has made clear the need for some Twenty20 match practice ahead of the Standard Bank Pro20 series, the schedules have gone back to the drawing board. The Inter-Provincial ‘A’ Twenty20 is now due to take place this week in Harare, while the Logan Cup games have yet to be rescheduled.

Faithwear Inter-Provincial ‘A’ Pencilled in for April

The recently-postponed Faithwear one-day series has been rescheduled to April, according to CricInfo - although as yet they’ve had no confirmation from ZC of this. The series was moved to make sure that national side players, currently playing in the MTN Domestic Championship, would be available to play. Their absence would have left the quality of play in the series unacceptably low.

Faithwear One-Day Series Postponed

We may have only got the fixture list last week, but we’ve now learnt that the Faithwear Intro-Provincial ‘A’ One-Day series has been postponed. No new dates have yet been announced - most likely reason in the continued participation of most of the country’s top players in the SA domestic competitions (proving that, while getting experience in those competitions is a good thing, it does have a knock-on effect back homes). More when we get it.

Domestic Season in Turmoil?

We have the proposed fixture list for this year’s Faithwear Inter-Provincial ‘A’ series and Logan Cup first-class competition - you can find them on the Fixtures page - but CricInfo reports that the remainder of the domestic season may be in doubt, due to the lack of quality players (most of the top players are currently in action for Zimbabwe Provinces and Zimbabwe Chevrons). The ‘A’ division Twenty20 competition has already been postponed, with the Faithwear ‘A’ contest also in doubt.

MTN Domestic Series Update

A few tweaks have been made to the schedule for the MTN Domestic Series, with Zim’s matches against the Dolphins having both been moved. Zim’s first match will now be against the Warriors, on Sunday 10th in Bulawayo. You can see the full schedule on our Fixtures page.
